911 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet G50 (1988)

Due In

911 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet Sport. 5 speed manual (G50 Gearbox). First registered 04/08/1988 F-Registration. Finished in Venetian Blue Metallic with Linen Leather sports seats, piped Blue.

Supplied new by Merlin Cambria Ltd, Cardiff, and a car we know well having supplied it to the previous back in 2009 at a mileage of 96850. The car was exported to Spain by our customer. 15 years in a warm climate with no salt has helped preserve the structure of the car really well. At this price point most 3.2’s are tired and rotten. This particular one, most certainly isn’t. In actual fact it looked really solid and clean when we inspected the car in our workshop. Kidney bowls, sills and inner wings all looked good. The fabric roof hasn’t faded and looks presentable whilst the electric roof mechanism works without fault. The car is supplied with a tonneau cover to complete ‘the look’ when the roof is retracted. There are a few minor cosmetic imperfections (stone chips) that have been touched in on the body of the car and some minor blistering below the rubber trim on the Aluminium front bumper, but nothing unsightly. The cosmetic presentation will be far superior to other examples at this point in the market.

Inside, the seats are nice, as are the carpets with no evidence of current or previous water ingress. The interior smells exactly like we’d expect from a decent 3.2 cabriolet, certainly not damp or musty. The leather is missing from the original gear gaitor but these are readily available and it’s an easy fix.
The engine felt strong on road test as did the gearbox. Clutch action is good and the pedal isn’t heavy. The petals on the original 16″ Fuch alloys have been, at some point, painted blue. A factory spec check suggests that originally they would have been white. Arguably the blue is now better but again, largely irrelevant.

Drive train and running gear have been invested in over the years and as part of our preparation we’ve carried out a spark plug service and replaced the fuel pressure regulator and damper.

We see the car as a great opportunity for someone to acquire a structurally sound, accident free, matching numbers, 3.2 Carrera. Any works that a new owner chooses to do would be elective rather than necessary. This is not a money pit and a very sound buy at the price. Although not typical of our usual stock (most 3.2 Carrera’s we sell would be in the £60 to £80K bracket) we were still keen to stock the car and have the opportunity to help those looking for an entry level air cooled 911 in what can best be described as a minefield.

Supplied with the original service book / pack manuals, service history, spare keys, supporting invoices and historic MOT certificates.
