924 Carrera GT (1980)

£99,995

924 Carrera GT. 5-speed Manual Transmission. First registered 10/11/1980. Finished in Diamond Silver Metallic with Black Leatherette and Black/Red pinstripe with deviated red stitch interior. 1 of 75 Carrera GT’s imported into the UK. Of those 75 cars this has to be one of the more significant examples with a unique backstory and provenance.

From the Official Porsche Press Release, Midday, June 3rd 1980 (taken directly from the cars’ extensive history file) “Today the Porsche Factory announce a new, limited production model to be known as the Porsche 924 Carrera GT. It is intended to succeed the classic 1973 lightweight Carrera as the ultimate road car with competition potential. A total of only 75 924 Carrera GT’s will be imported into the United Kingdom. The car is due to make its British debut at the Motor Show in October and, in its full UK specification, it is anticipated to cost some £19,000″……The significance here is that this particular vehicle is that very car. The October 1980 British Motor Show 924 Carrera GT.

Originally registered and subsequently owned/retained by Porsche Cars G.B for 14 years up until their sale of it in April 1994. The official Press/Motorshow car was then personally driven by the then Managing director of Porsche Cars Great Britain until it was lent to Porsche Isleworth (a partner in the AFN group of companies) where it competed in the British Sports Car Championship for the 1982 Season, driven by Tony Lanfranchi. In the final race of the season on 16th October 1980, the car finished first at Brands Hatch, leading a full field of production cars. Porsche Cars GB retained ownership of the car where it remained in dry storage, used on occasion for display purposes and technical training. The car then entered private ownership for the first time in April 1994. The most recent owner acquired the car in August 2010.

Supplied with a large and fact-filled history file complete with all original 924 Carrera GT Press releases, the original Porsche technical data literature, an Internal Porsche Chassis enquiry check summarising the life of the car for the 14 years that Porsche Great Britain owned it. Sports Car Championship result sheets, original Porsche supplied black and white release photographs of the 924 Carrera GT, service invoicing, historic MOT’s, tax discs, and the original service pack, manual, and maintenance record book. Naturally, the car is supplied with all appropriate keys.

Presented in excellent and unmolested condition throughout. The condition being very much consistent with the 27,000 miles the car has covered. Most recently serviced 14/04/2023 within the last 150 miles. Underbody Dry Ice clean 28/03/2022 with a full glass out respray in May 2021 at a cost of £12,600.

Genuinely thrilled to be offering this collector-grade 924 Carrera GT for sale. There will only be one official British Motor Show car and this is it. A special car that really suits the rarely seen option of Diamond Silver Metallic with Carrera GT decals in red to complement the red interior stitch and pinstripes and finished off with the Satin Black petals of the Fuch alloy wheels. Derek Bell drove one of these at Le Mans in 1980 and still rates it as one of his favourite Porsche Cars of all time. Having driven the car we can see why….An important and rare model in Porsche heritage with the significance of this specific car hard to overstate.
